#6 Motion vs. Action

Why do most of the smart people in the world fail to achieve success and in life? We know that to be successful, there are some things that need to be done. It is only by doing those things that one achieves success in whatever area they are working on.

What are those things that need to be done? First, we should have a clear idea about what it is that we want. It can be making 10,000 $ a year or losing weight or become a good friend or a husband, whatever it may be. This is the result that we want to enjoy and the endpoint we want to reach. Most people are really good at this step, at knowing what they want in life.

Now the second stage is the learning and planning stage. This includes learning about the business from various sources if starting a new business is your goal. This includes reading about a new diet plan if losing weight is your goal.

And comes the last and the toughest part which is taking action. This is where you do something about what you have learned. This is the stage where you have to go to the gym and do squats if your goal is to lose weight. This is the stage where you have to meet potential clients and investors and convince them about your business idea if starting a business is your goal.

The thing about smart people is that they all do great at the first two stages and they are probably stuck in the second stage and rarely or almost never come to the third stage. Although the first and second stages are very crucial in becoming successful in life, those alone won’t bring any change into your life, and they never produce any result. These actions are what is called Motion. And sometimes, they may delude us to believe that we are making progress when we are making zero progress. Only the third stage is what produces results and makes progress. This stage is called Action and only the action is what is needed for making real change happen in life.

So, to make real change happen in your life, make sure to spend only 20 percent of your time on the motion phase and 80 percent of your time in the action phase.
